Criteria for sites to receive a Ladder54 Website Award

ALL sites must

Be "G" rated - no offensive materials (jokes, nudity, etc.)
Load in a reasonable time, or at least pre-load images under 20 seconds at 28.8
Have a listed webmaster for contact


Your site does not have to be a firefighting site. Basically, we have an award for most all sites and your content is what determines which award. You'll get at least the "applied for" award as a minimum. We will include why your website was selected for the particular award if you don't get the one that you applied for and suggestions for increasing your award status. You can apply for more than one award (i.e. - a firefighting or EMS award can accompany another site award)

Best of the Web Award
This award is our top award. To receive this a website has to meet the GOLD standards as well as some interesting use of html behaviors and/or scripting, grpahics optimized for fast loading, and utilize their own coded forms and rollovers or nav menus. These are websites that visitors are apt to say 'wow nice site!' when visiting.

Gold awards must:
Be at least 10 pages (should include a guestbook or other feedback method)
Good use of either tables or layers
Content and/or images should begin visibility in less than 5 seconds
Original graphics dedicated to the site or theme
Some java usage and no scripting errors
Not have one long scrolling page
Have user controls if incorporating sound or other simliar actions

Silver awards must:
Be at least 5 pages
Use at least tables in the main design
Content and/or images should become visible inless than 10 seconds
Some original graphics and minimul use of generic images
Not have one long scrolling page
Have user controls if incorporating sound or other simliar actions

Standard awards:
We realize that some websites are smaller and do not use scripting and tables, etc. (ex - aol pages) but they still do a good job at content and effort when relaying a firefighting message. We don't want to leave anyone out because they're not webpage designers. If you have a page that you think deserves recognition, let us know!

Applicant and Nominee awards:
This is an award for applying. After making any needed changes or when your site advances, you can change this award. This award recognizes that you were reveiwed by ladder54 webmasters.
